Preview: Sturgeon Bulldogs vs. New Bloomfield Wildcats
The Sturgeon Bulldogs will finish 2023 at home by hosting the New Bloomfield Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Monday, Sturgeon was the victim of a tough 60-37 defeat at the hands of Westran. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sturgeon in their matchups with Westran: they've now lost five in a row.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 82-44, which was the final score in New Bloomfield's tilt against Eugene on Monday. New Bloomfield was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-20.
Despite the loss, New Bloomfield got a solid performance out of Jacob Fuhriman, who scored 18 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Nathan Fuhriman, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
New Bloomfield struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Sturgeon's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for New Bloomfield, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Sturgeon beat New Bloomfield 48-40 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Does Sturgeon have another victory up their sleeve, or will New Bloomfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
