Basketball Recap: Chowchilla Takes a Loss

If Chowchilla was riding high fresh off their 79-18 takedown of Magnolia last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chowchilla Tribe took a 58-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oxford Academy Patriots on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Chowchilla still got an impressive performance from Khaled Escheik, who went 10 for 16 on his way to 21 points and seven rebounds. Tristan Beardsley was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Chowchilla has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Oxford Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

Chowchilla wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 76-35 defeat against Mary Star of the Sea on the 30th. As for Oxford Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-47 loss against Kennedy on the 30th.
