Softball Preview: Carterville Lions vs. Goreville Blackcats

Carterville has enjoyed a six-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Goreville Blackcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Carterville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Carterville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Illinois' top teams: Glenwood, who was ranked 14th in their home state at the time (Carterville was ranked first). Carterville had just enough and edged Glenwood out 3-2.

Taryn Ford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive pitching appearances.

Meanwhile, Goreville came up short against Chester on Saturday and fell 8-3.
