South Panola is 9-1 against Lake Cormorant since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. South Panola will be playing at home against Lake Cormorant at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Panola has five straight wins, Lake Cormorant has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
South Panola had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Center Hill on Tuesday. South Panola's pitcher stepped up to hand Center Hill a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 11 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Hailey Heafner, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Kailey McKinney was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
South Panola hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in 15 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Lake Cormorant came up short against Northpoint Christian on Friday, falling 14-1.
Lake Cormorant saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alivia Burns, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
South Panola's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Cormorant, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Lake Cormorant's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Panola has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. It's a different story for Lake Cormorant, though, as they've only averaged .310. Will they be able to contain South Panola's hitters?
