The 10th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard visited the Bruins of Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village, Colo.). MaxPreps and the Army National Guard made a stop to pay tribute to the Cherry Creek football team. This truly amazing team earned the honor by clinching the Colorado Class 5A state football championship and was ranked No. 64 in the nation by MaxPreps.

The 10th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard arrived at Cherry Creek High School on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 18. Upon entering the high school, we admired its enormous 80-acre college campus style layout; size being a necessity for the Colorado's largest high school, with over 3,700 students.

We were led to the south gym by a student dressed as a bear, the Bruins mascot, who was eager to cheer on Creek's varsity boys basketball team. Upon arrival we were enthusiastically greeted by athletic director Jason Wilkins. He gave us a brief tour of the impressive athletic facility that ended in the gym with an introduction to head football coach Dave Logan.

With the gym filled with students, parents and faculty engaged in the basketball game, we had the opportunity to speak with some of the Bruins football players. Their enthusiasm over winning the 5A State Championship was beaming. When asked to what they attributed their success this season, the overwhelming consensus was their great coaches and their focus on teamwork.

At halftime of the basketball game, Wilkins took the mic and introduced Tracey McFadden on behalf of MaxPreps. McFadden quickly got to the point as to why the team was being honored, citing their incredible 25-24 defeat over Valor Christian of Highlands Ranch to clinch the Colorado 5A State Championship, and their impressive No. 64 MaxPreps national ranking out of more than 16,000 high schools.

After calling the players and coaches to center court, Tracey then introduced Sergeant Bethany Fehringer from the Colorado Army National Guard. Sergeant Fehringer commended the team for its determination, dedication and perseverance during this season, and presented the team and coach Logan with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy, commonly referred to as the "Minuteman" trophy.

Logan graciously accepted, and passed the trophy to senior all-state running back Milo Hall. Surrounded by his teammates, Hall held the trophy high above his head and reveled in the thunderous applause from the crowd.

Congratulations to the Bruins for an amazing season!
