It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hoke County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Union Pines Vikings 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bucks have posted against the Vikings since February 27, 2019.

Niya Jones spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bailey Mass, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kalea Parker, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hoke County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.

Hoke County pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Union Pines, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.

Hoke County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 18-0 victory against Pinecrest on the 15th. As for Union Pines, they have also already played their next game, a 15-0 win against Midlakes on the 14th.
