Recap: Alemany Warriors vs. Notre Dame (SO) Knights
The Alemany Warriors''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 42-6 defeat at the hands of Notre Dame (SO). While losing is never fun, Alemany can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Notre Dame (SO) is ranked 49th).
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nigel Epperson, who rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Notre Dame (SO) got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Steele Pizzella out in front who rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 87 yards and three touchdowns. Pizzella is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Jimmy Monte was another key contributor, rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries.
Alemany's loss was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-0 Lincoln and 7-2 St. Bonaventure (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68.3% over those games). As for Notre Dame (SO), they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alemany will take on Serra at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Notre Dame (SO), they will head out on the road to face off against Bishop Amat at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
