Softball Recap: Cox Mill Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Central Cabarrus, Cox Mill was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They came out on top against the Central Academy of Technology & Arts Cougars by a score of 12-7. This was a revenge game for the Chargers: when they faced off against the Cougars back in March, they had to take a 8-3 loss.

Audrey Barnhill made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Barnhill was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paige Harmer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kinslee Ellington, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Cox Mill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Academy of Technology & Arts only posted a batting average of .286.

Cox Mill's win bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Central Academy of Technology & Arts, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season.

Cox Mill will head out on the road to face off against A.L. Brown at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wonders will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Central Academy of Technology & Arts, they will welcome Monroe at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Redhawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.75 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
