Softball Recap: Pine Grove Has No Trouble Against Tamaqua

Pine Grove had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Tamaqua on Tuesday. The Cardinals blew past the Blue Raiders 9-2. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by seven runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Madison Shiffer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Lily Flynn also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.

Pine Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in three consecutive games.

Pine Grove pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Tamaqua, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-5-1.

Looking ahead, Pine Grove will square off against Pottsville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Crimson Tide have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Tamaqua, they will challenge Our Lady of Lourdes Regional at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.67 runs per game on average), something the Blue Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
