Softball Preview: Bishop Canevin Crusaders vs. Sewickley Academy
Bishop Canevin is 0-3 against Sewickley Academy since April of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Crusaders will welcome Sewickley Academy at 4:00 p.m. Bishop Canevin has given up an average of 11.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bishop Canevin fell victim to Union Area and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Scotties, falling 20-0.
Meanwhile, Sewickley Academy put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Rochester as they made off with a 17-2 victory. Sewickley Academy might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 15 runs or more this season.
Charlotte Andrews (2028) was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Sewickley Academy got a massive performance out of Quincy Sirko (2025), who scored three runs and stole seven bases while going 3-for-4. Sirko (2025) is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Sanaa Grant (2026), who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Sewickley Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .609. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in three consecutive games.
Sewickley Academy pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Bishop Canevin, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
