Baseball Recap: Marion Comes Up Short

Marion had lost seven straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-14-1 to make it eight. They fell 10-5 to the Tazewell Bulldogs. The Scarlet Hurricanes were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Marion saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Corbin Bade, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Sean Stuart was another, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Tazewell, they moved to 6-11 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Tazewell's side, Walker Patterson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Patterson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Tazewell's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-11 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Brody Myers and Nathan Lambert did most of the damage at the plate: Myers got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Lambert got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double. Myers has become a key player for Tazewell: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-11 otherwise.

As of now, neither Marion nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
