Baseball Recap: Nichols Makes It Three in a Row at Home

After losing to St. Mary the last time they met, Nichols decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Vikings came out on top against the Lancers by a score of 8-4 on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by exactly four runs.

Ross Yoshida made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Kasey Kohler was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Brady Venditti also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Nichols pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for St. Mary's, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nichols will head out to take on Maryvale at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Mary's, they will venture away from home to face off against Orchard Park at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
