Baseball Recap: Pomona Takes a Loss

Pomona extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-12 in the process. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Evergreen Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-3 on April 9th.

Spencer Werner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

As for Evergreen, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Evergreen's side, Brody March was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. March has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Mauro, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Jack Berendes was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one stolen base.

Pomona didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-2 victory against Wheat Ridge on the 2nd. As for Evergreen, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 7-4 loss against Golden on the 1st.
