Softball Game Preview: Puyallup Vikings vs. Bonney Lake Panthers

The Puyallup Vikings will venture away from home to challenge the Bonney Lake Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Puyallup will be strutting in after a win while Bonney Lake will be coming in after a loss.

Puyallup took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Rogers by a score of 3-0.

Kiera Thomas was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last ten games. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Thomas wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Paisley Jamison, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Bonney Lake suffered their closest defeat since April 9th on Thursday. They fell just short of Yelm by a score of 4-2.

Aspyn Evanson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

Puyallup has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Bonney Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Puyallup hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bonney Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
