Softball Game Preview: Flintridge Prep Wolves vs. Mayfield Cubs

The Flintridge Prep Wolves will take on the Mayfield Cubs at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Flintridge Prep has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Flintridge Prep came up short against Rio Hondo Prep on Tuesday, falling 11-4. The Wolves haven't had much luck with the Kares recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Meanwhile, Mayfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Polytechnic on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cubs have suffered since February 20th.

Mackenzie Taylor spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jaz Johnson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Sissy Paige was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5.

This is the second loss in a row for Mayfield and nudges their season record down to 7-7-2. As for Flintridge Prep, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Flintridge Prep took their win against Mayfield in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 14-6 score. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cubs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
