Baseball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Hill Country Christian School of Austin's 11th in Last 14 Outings

Ten must be Hill Country Christian School of Austin's lucky number: they beat Vanguard College Prep with that score not once but twice on Monday. The Knights beat the Vikings by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-2. Considering the Knights have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Jack Young made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Andrew Trimborn looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Ashton Berzins and Nick Cheij did most of the damage at the plate: Berzins scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4, while Cheij went 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave Cheij a new career-high. Alex Cepada was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Hill Country Christian School of Austin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Hill Country Christian School of Austin has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Vanguard College Prep, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7.

As of now, neither Hill Country Christian School of Austin nor the Vikings have any future games scheduled.
