Baseball Recap: Chiefland Find Success

Chiefland proved they can win big last Friday (they won by nine) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Dixie County Bears 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted against the Bears since February 23, 2021.

Garrett Byrd made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Osten Jones was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Brown, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Chiefland pushed their record up to 11-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Dixie County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.

Chiefland and Dixie County are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Indians will face off against Bronson at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Dixie County, they will head out on the road to challenge Saint Francis Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Bears surely won't give up without a fight.
