Softball Game Preview: Juniata Indians vs. Greenwood Wildcats

Juniata is a perfect 3-0 against Greenwood since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Indians will venture away from home to take on the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Juniata is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.

Juniata came up short against Halifax on Wednesday, falling 12-2. That's two games in a row now that the Indians have lost by exactly ten runs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greenwood). They put the hurt on East Juniata with a sharp 13-6 win on Friday. The Wildcats not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19, 2024 (when they won 22-1).

Makenzie Devore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, Greenwood let Jayden Brosius and Nicole Herr run wild. Brosius went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Herr went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Brosius a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamryn Walton, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Greenwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Greenwood's victory ended an 11-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-12. As for Juniata, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Juniata took their win against Greenwood when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 19-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
