Baseball Recap: Hendersonville Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Smoky Mountain, Hendersonville was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over the Brevard Blue Devils. This was a revenge game for the Bearcats: when they faced off against the Blue Devils last Tuesday, they had to take a 12-2 loss.

Hendersonville let Martiste Mills and Wesley Mayo run wild. Mills scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Mayo scored a run while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Mayo a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Xavier Garcia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Hendersonville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

With the win, Hendersonville broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-8. As for Brevard, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.
