Mesa Ridge had won 16 straight games and Bryce Riehl did his part to make it 17 on Saturday. The Mesa Ridge Grizzlies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 54-51 victory over the Discovery Canyon Thunder thanks in part to Riehl, who went 8 for 20 en route to 23 points in addition to seven steals and six rebounds. He has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played.

Defeat or not, Discovery Canyon got some senior leadership from Noah Eckels and Aiden Hayler. Eckels went 11 of 14 to rack up 22 points, while Hayler went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points along with five assists and five boards. That was a full 43.1% of Discovery Canyon's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Hugh Tarpenning, who had six points and eight rebounds.

Mesa Ridge pushed their record up to 17-1 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points over those games. As for Discovery Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 15-5.

Coming up, Mesa Ridge will venture away from home to challenge Coronado at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mesa Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.1 points per game this season. As for Discovery Canyon, they will host Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lutheran knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Discovery Canyon likes a good challenge.
