Baseball Recap: Richton Comes Up Short

After flying high against Collins last Tuesday, Richton came back down to earth. The Rebels fell 12-9 to the Lumberton Panthers on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 back in February.

Tuck Fulmer and Elisha Byrd stepped up to the plate in a big way. Fulmer got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI, while Byrd got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Byrd has become a key player for Richton: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-18 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Cochran, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Richton has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 15 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season. As for Lumberton, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Panthers beat Richton by a score of 12-9 later that day.
