Softball Recap: Monticello Comes Up Short

Monticello was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Washingtonville Wizards, falling 16-4. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wizards apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Monticello saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexandra Cushing, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Monticello's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Washingtonville, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-11.

Monticello and Washingtonville could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Panthers will square off against Goshen Central at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (546 vs. 157). Meanwhile, Washingtonville (ranked 506th) will meet Warwick (ranked 195th) at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
