Softball Recap: Griffith Panthers vs. Pioneer Panthers

Griffith was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They lost 13-6 to the Pioneer Panthers.

Morgan Von Ogden made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-2.

On Pioneer's side, Lois Layer was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Layer has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Layer was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Ava Beasy was incredible, going 4-for-5 with a home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ava Ott, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4.

Griffith's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Pioneer, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-3.

Griffith is on the road again on Saturday to play Twin Lakes at 3:00 p.m. Twin Lakes has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.81 runs per game on average), something Griffith will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pioneer, they will take on New Prairie at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams will come into the matchup having just posted big wins, so someone is set to suffer a big change in fortunes.
