Winfield faced Scott in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Generals sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  a  7-5  win over the Skyhawks. Winning may never get old, but the Generals sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
 Brody Ilderton and  Ean Cox made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing,  Ilderton   tossed three innings while giving up   no  earned runs off   two  hits. Meanwhile,  Cox   pitched two innings while giving up   no  earned runs or  hits. Ilderton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in three consecutive appearances. At bat,  Ilderton  went a perfect 1-for-1 with one  home run, while  Cox  scored a  run and  stole two bases while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances. Ilderton also put up a  run, which was his first of the season.
 They weren't the only ones making solid contact as  three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Blake Withrow, who  scored a  run while going 1-for-4.
Winfield's record now sits at 9-1. As for Scott,  with the  defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2-2.
 Coming up, Winfield will venture away from home to  square off against Logan  at 6:00  p.m.  on Tuesday. As for Scott, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  matchup,  a  9-4  victory against George Washington on the 2nd.
