Softball Preview: Matawan Regional Huskies vs. Marlboro Mustangs

The Matawan Regional Huskies will square off against the Marlboro Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Thursday, Matawan Regional came up short against Allentown and fell 10-5. The Huskies have struggled against the Redbirds recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Emma Kriegstein was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off ten hits. Kriegstein was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Maddie DeChristopher was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run. Elyssa Jamandron was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run.

Meanwhile, Marlboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Donovan Catholic, falling 6-0.

On the hitting side, Marlboro saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aimee Notaro, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
