Softball Recap: McKinley Takes a Loss

McKinley extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-13. They came up short against the Windham Bombers, falling 6-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bombers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-5 on Saturday.

As for Windham, their win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-5. Considering they have won three matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

For Windham's part, Lillian Pesa-Garrett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Pesa-Garrett has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Windham got a big performance out of Skylar Bailey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Bailey has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kierrah Sanders, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McKinley will head out to take on Lordstown at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Windham, they will venture away from home to square off against Maplewood at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rockets' pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so the Bombers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
