Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West County). They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Steelville Cardinals on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Grace Barton was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lacey LaMarr, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Maylee Merrill, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
West County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .771. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Steelville only posted an OBP of .133.
West County's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Steelville, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.
