Softball Recap: Cannelton Takes a Loss

Cannelton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-4. They came up short against the Christian Academy Warriors, falling 18-5. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by exactly 13 runs.

Cannelton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brianna Evans, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

As for Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 6-8-1. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five games by 13 runs or more so far this season.

On Christian Academy's side, Gleason Mikesell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Mikesell a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Those triples marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Natalie McKain and Ella Peach did most of the damage at the plate: McKain went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Peach went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those five RBI gave McKain a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Byerley, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Cannelton will challenge Columbus Christian at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Christian Academy, they will welcome Trinity Lutheran at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
