Dakota Valley (9 Man) recap Oct. 3, 2012

Elkton/Lake Benton MN scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Castlewood, 21-20. At the time, the Warriors was ranked 16th in the state, while the Elks was 34th.

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Elkton/Lake Benton MN, who took down 16th ranked Castlewood, 21-20.

Deubrook's dynamic duo of Taylor Olsen and Dustin Trooien proved tough for St. Mary to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Olsen threw for 85 yards and Trooien had 67 yards receiving. Cory Byers helped Deubrook's passing attack out by catching one ball for 18 yards.

Jaden Denison was the most productive running back in Dakota Valley (9 Man) this week. He ran for 239 yards on 33 carries as Lake Preston beat the Cardinals. Teammate Ethan Tolzin added to the ground attack by rushing for 10 yards.

Denison made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Divers bested Colman-Egan. The 6-foot-0 junior recorded one fumble.

Thanks to the talents of Olsen and Ryan Knutson Deubrook has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Olsen leads the league in passing with 314 yards, while Knutson has rushed for 980 yards this season. Lake Preston's Michael Bradfield leads the league in receiving yards with 158 on seven catches.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Arlington and Doug Ruesink's team. The Cardinals enters the contest ranked 22nd in the state, while the Warriors ranks 21st.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Adolph Shepardson's team takes on Oldham-Ramona/Rutland. The Dolphins' offense has recorded 242 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Raiders have permitted only 238 on the year.

Deubrook's Knutson is a mere 20 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Arlington takes on Castlewood. Steve Gilbertson's team has allowed 59 points this season, while the Warriors have given up 75. The Cardinals allowed 0 points last week as they topped DeSmet/Iroquois.

Estelline was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 10th to eighth in Dakota Valley (9 Man). The Redmen vanquished Jason Hanson's team 50-14 earlier in the week.
