Basketball Game Preview: Newton-Conover Red Devils vs. Alexander Central Cougars

The Newton-Conover Red Devils will square off against the Alexander Central Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Last Tuesday, Newton-Conover came up short against Draughn and fell 51-38.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jenna Sain, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. Mira Sigmon was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to seven steals and five boards.

Meanwhile, Alexander Central strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They walked away with a 69-57 win over North Lincoln. The Cougars' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Alexander Central's win came from a few key players Newton-Conover will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ava Head, who posted 18 points and five rebounds. Those 18 points gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Meredith Wike, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards.

Alexander Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.

Alexander Central's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Newton-Conover, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Newton-Conover didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Alexander Central in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 52-48 win.
