Softball Recap: Duarte Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Duarte came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Garey Vikings with a sharp 20-0 win. Considering the Falcons have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Alyssa Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other batting news, Valeria Nunez was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Valeria Hinajosa, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5.

Duarte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Duarte pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Garey, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Duarte will take on Arbor View at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Garey, they will head out to challenge Nogales at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Nobles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.15 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of.
