Softball Recap: South Decatur Has No Trouble Against Crothersville

It was a proper cat-fight when South Decatur faced off against Crothersville on Monday. The Cougars blew past the Tigers 16-0. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five contests by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Riley Benge made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, South Decatur let Dalilah Martin and Daisy Martin run wild. Dalilah went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Daisy went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was Dalilah's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lilly Murray, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.

South Decatur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .722. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

South Decatur has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Crothersville, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Decatur will square off against Jac-Cen-Del at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Crothersville, they will face off against New Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: the Mustangs will have lost four straight heading into Thursday's contest.
