Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Loss Ends Humboldt's Winning Streak

Humboldt fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Anderson County on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (57-53), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Their loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Humboldt lost, don't look at Colden Cook. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. Cook's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Tre Franklin was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points and three steals.

Leading Anderson County to victory were Noah Porter and Brayden Wheat. Porter dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Wheat posted 23 points. Porter is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aidan Steele, who scored six points.

Humboldt's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-2. As for Anderson County, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Humboldt and Anderson County should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. Humboldt will square off against Erie at 7:30 p.m. on Friday up 185 places (70 vs. 255). Humboldt is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.6 points per game this season. Similarly, Anderson County (ranked 86th) will meet Central Heights (ranked 341st) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
