Softball Preview: Ellsworth Eagles vs. John Bapst Memorial Crusaders

Ellsworth is a perfect 10-0 against John Bapst Memorial since June of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will face off against the Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.

Ellsworth barely beat Caribou the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 12-2 win on Monday. The Eagles not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23rd (when they won 12-0).

Camryn Clough was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Kaylee Bagley and Jenna Moon did most of the damage at the plate: Bagley went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Moon went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Moon a new career-high. Greenlee Harmon also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Ellsworth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, John Bapst Memorial hadn't done well against Foxcroft Academy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Crusaders' pitchers stepped up to hand the Ponies a 6-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Ellsworth is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
