Baseball Game Preview: St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers vs. New London Wildcats

The St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers will square off against the New London Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

St. Mary Central Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They came out on top against Huron by a score of 11-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Meanwhile, New London was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-13 heartbreaker at the hands of Western Reserve. The game snapped a strange streak: the last six times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Jarrett Mencl was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Keith Squire was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

St. Mary Central Catholic's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for New London, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
