Basketball Recap: Fort Morgan Comes Up Short

Fort Morgan played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Eaton Reds, falling 63-39. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Reds: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Fort Morgan saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Royer Alvarez posted five points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brodin Jess, who had seven points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Eaton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Crew Haythorn, who to rack up 21 points. Haythorn has been hot recently, having posted 20 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ely Madaleno, who on his way to 17 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Fort Morgan's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Eaton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Fort Morgan didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-46 loss against Sterling on the 24th. As for Eaton, they have also already played their next match, a 94-55 victory against Frontier Academy on the 22nd.
