Basketball Recap: Taylor Birney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Russell over Thomas More Prep-Marian

Russell lost against Thomas More Prep-Marian back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Russell Broncos fell 49-41 to the Thomas More Prep-Marian Monarchs. While the Broncos didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Monarchs 17-11 in the first quarter.

Several Broncos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taylor Birney, who posted nine points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Birney, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Russell's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Thomas More Prep-Marian, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Russell will take on Hoxie at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Thomas More Prep-Marian, they will square off against Great Bend at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
