Softball Game Preview: Bayshore Bruins vs. DeSoto County Bulldogs

Bayshore hasn't had much luck against DeSoto County recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bruins will head out on the road to square off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, Bayshore made easy work of Gibbs and carried off a 23-8 win. Considering the Bruins have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, DeSoto County entered their tilt with Hardee on Thursday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Wildcats. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by just one run.

Mya Goodnoe was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. Goodnoe was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Emery Skinner was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

DeSoto County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 11 consecutive games.

DeSoto County's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Bayshore, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-4.

Bayshore might still be hurting after the 20-5 defeat they got from DeSoto County in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Bruins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
