Baseball Game Preview: St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots vs. St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins

St. Joseph Notre Dame has gone a perfect 9-0 against St. Patrick-St. Vincent recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins at 11:00 a.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

St. Joseph Notre Dame is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Saint Mary's. St. Joseph Notre Dame never let Saint Mary's get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Pilots as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.

The result came thanks to Zach Lopez's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Robbie Fintland was incredible, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, St. Patrick-St. Vincent posted their closest victory since April 23, 2024 on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against De Anza, sneaking past 7-6.

Lucius Lissner looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, St. Patrick-St. Vincent let Trevor Moelk and Bo Smith run wild. Moelk scored a run while going 1-for-4, while Smith scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Moelk also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

St. Joseph Notre Dame was able to grind out a solid win over St. Patrick-St. Vincent in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 7-2. Will St. Joseph Notre Dame repeat their success, or does St. Patrick-St. Vincent have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
