Softball Recap: Teaneck Comes Up Short

Teaneck dropped their record down to 6-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Hackensack Comets by a score of 14-12. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Highwaymen of the 12-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Leanna Guerrero made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Emilia Sharp also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.

As for Hackensack, the win snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 5-11 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 24, 2024.

On Hackensack's side, the team relied heavily on Briana Darling, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six stolen bases, and five runs. That's the most stolen bases Darling has posted since back in May of 2024. Janae Neal was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Teaneck and Hackensack could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Highwaymen (ranked 255th) will meet NV - Old Tappan (ranked ninth) at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Hackensack will face off against Ridgewood at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (298 vs. 131).
