Meanwhile, Piedmont fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Mount Pleasant on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 13-9 to the Tigers. The Panthers just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row dating back to last season.

Piedmont also got a good showing from Peyton Archer, who struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, Dallas Tucker was cooking despite his team's loss, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.

The victory got Carmel Christian back to even at 1-1. As for Piedmont, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
