Baseball Game Preview: Carmel Christian Cougars vs. Piedmont Panthers

The Carmel Christian Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Piedmont Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Carmel Christian will be strutting in after a win while Piedmont will be coming in after a loss.

Carmel Christian made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Cannon, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Carmel Christian blew past Cannon 14-2 on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what Carmel Christian needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

The team relied heavily on Ryan Field, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Williams, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Carmel Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cannon only posted a batting average of .154.

Meanwhile, Piedmont fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Mount Pleasant on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 13-9 to the Tigers. The Panthers just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row dating back to last season.

Piedmont also got a good showing from Peyton Archer, who struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, Dallas Tucker was cooking despite his team's loss, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.

The victory got Carmel Christian back to even at 1-1. As for Piedmont, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
