Woodlake hasn't had much luck against Corcoran recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Woodlake Tigers will be taking part in a tournament against the Corcoran Panthers at 3:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Woodlake's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Tranquillity with a sharp 15-0 win. The high-scoring effort was just what Woodlake needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Uziel Nanez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Guillermo Rosales was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Elias Lang, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Corcoran made easy work of Fresno Christian on Wednesday and carried off a 12-1 victory. Considering the Panthers have won three contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Woodlake, Corcoran also got a great game from a two-way player: Brennan Botill. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Botill was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elijah Muthana, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Cortez Portillo was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-2.
Corcoran's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Woodlake, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
