Basketball Game Preview: Westwood Warriors vs. Mesa Jackrabbits

The Westwood Warriors are taking a road trip to take on the Mesa Jackrabbits at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westwood has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since November 20.

Westwood saw some tournament action back in December of 2024. They were dealt a 51-21 loss at the hands of Canon City.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mesa). They breezed by Highland to the tune of 56-27 on Tuesday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Jackrabbits with their most commanding win of the season.

Westwood better focus on containing Charly Pacheco and Taylor Morris as the pair were huge in Mesa's win. Pacheco went 9 for 12 on her way to 25 points, while Morris almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Morris is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Marlee Straub was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

Mesa was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland only racked up five assists.

The victory made it two in a row for Mesa and bumps their season record up to 6-8. As for Westwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.

Westwood ended up a good deal behind Mesa when the teams last played back in February of 2024, losing 50-35. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Straub, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 13 points along with seven boards and three steals.
