Softball Recap: Groton Takes a Loss

Groton extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 1-6. They lost 22-3 to the Moravia Blue Devils. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Hawks of the 17-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for Moravia, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Moravia's part, Taleigh Sheppard made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Sheppard has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Moravia beat Groton by a score of 20-4 later that day.
