Basketball Recap: Brooklyn Richter's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Murray over Jordan

If Murray was feeling good fresh off their 51-27 takedown of Hillcrest last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Murray Spartans took a 50-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jordan Beetdiggers on Tuesday. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Beetdiggers recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brooklyn Richter, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 12 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Scherbel, who posted ten points.

Even though they lost, Murray smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Jordan's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was June Joseph, who put up eight points and 17 rebounds. Joseph is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Felita Tauvao was another key player, going 6 of 8 en route to 12 points and five boards.

Murray's loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Jordan, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Cottonwood the next time they take the court. Jordan will head out to face Cottonwood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Murray will host them at 5:15 p.m. on January 28th.
