Softball Recap: Emery Wins Going Away Against Manti

Emery had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Manti on Friday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Templars with a sharp 7-1 win. Considering the Spartans have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kallee Lake spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Katelyn Nielson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three doubles, and four RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was TaiLynn Minchey, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Emery is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Manti, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-17.

Emery does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Manti, they will challenge Richfield at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Templars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
