Softball Recap: Hillside's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Northern Durham, Hillside was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over the Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won five contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Tierney Bailey made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ava Duncan was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maliya Blandford, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Hillside's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-7. As for Southeast Raleigh, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.

Coming up, Hillside will host East Chapel Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.54 runs per game on average), something the Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Southeast Raleigh, they will head out on the road to square off against Clayton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Comets will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
