Preview: Independence Knights vs. Argyle Eagles

Independence is 0-1 against Argyle since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Independence Knights will be playing at home against the Argyle Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Independence will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 828th, while Argyle is ranked 73rd).

Independence fell victim to Memorial's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Warriors on the road and fell 48-0. Having soared to a lofty 38 points in the game before, Independence couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, Argyle had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 41-34 victory over Emerson. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.

Argyle's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maguire Gasperson, who threw for 314 yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Krekeler, who rushed for 109 yards and three touchdowns.

Independence's defeat was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 14-1 Argyle and 7-1 Panther Creek (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.6% over those games). As for Argyle, their victory on Friday bumped their record up to 5-2.

Independence might still be hurting after the 35-10 loss they got from Argyle in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Independence have more luck at home instead of on the road?
