Assumption is a perfect 4-0 against Meade County since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Rockets will head out on the road to square off against the Green Waves at 6:00 p.m. Assumption is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Assumption is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Oldham County, who was ranked ninth at the time (Assumption was ranked fifth). The Rockets walked away with a 10-6 win over the Colonels on Wednesday.
The team relied heavily on Lauren Satterly, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Grace Sander, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Meade County not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9th (when they won 17-2). They never let Breckinridge County get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. Considering the Green Waves have won nine matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Veronica Roberts's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kennedy Ledford was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Annsley Adkisson was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.
Meade County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Breckinridge County only posted a batting average of .125.
The win (which was Meade County's third in a row) raised their record to 14-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Assumption, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Assumption hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Meade County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Assumption's way against Meade County when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Assumption made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
