Baseball Game Preview: Grace Davis Spartans vs. Ceres Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Grace Davis will face off against Ceres. The Spartans will host the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Grace Davis came out on top against Ceres on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Spartans walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Bulldogs. The game was the first time the Spartans have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since April 26, 2023.

Armando Villegas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Grace Davis is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-7 otherwise. Villegas was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Villegas wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alex Ceja, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Oscar Mendoza was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Grace Davis' win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-8. As for Ceres, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
